Nature's Medicine for Nervous System Regulation & Stress Relief

The nervous system is our body's natural method of communication and regulation. It is responsible for connecting neural pathways that extend from our heart and brain to the rest of the body. A functioning nervous system is essential to help us regulate balance in the body and adapt to any changes in our energy, environment or atmosphere.


 If you are a Human Being on Earth right now, you are likely well aware of the changes that are currently taking place, as the changes we embrace, we embrace them on many levels. We embrace them in our Mind, Body, and Spirit, as Individuals, and together as a Community. No matter which way you look at the shifts that are occurring, it would seem we are being called back to the wisdom of Nature and our Ancestors at this time of Great Transformation.


As a part of this Transformation, many people are reporting a heightened amount of energy in the air, enough to where it can be felt in the body, throughout our entire nervous system. This energy can feel like stress and anxiety, like time is moving faster, like your body is heavy and tired but your mind is racing. Many are also experiencing waves of heightened emotion as well as a lowering of immunity to toxins and pathogens. It appears to be accumulating as a result of a cascade of multiple factors, including cosmic rays of Light and Plasma embracing the Earth from the Sun and Stars, Earth's electromagnetic field dancing and spinning in response to this, higher levels of EMFs and conductive compounds (heavy metals) present in our bodies and atmosphere, combined with a parallel shift in our collective consciousness.


The symptoms we experience are not meant to be ignored. It is the body's way of responding to something, whether that be stress, emotions, lack of safety, or changes in our physical or energetic environment. Safety and security are foundational needs of the human body. When we do not feel safe, the nervous system remains alert.


If sustained, feelings of stress or insecurity can impact how we live. It can affect our immune system, leading to higher probability of sickness. It can make joy feel harder to attain, peace feel like a miracle, our goals feel impossible. When the body senses a threat, it struggles to receive.


 Finding natural ways to support nervous system regulation is not only essential for manifesting our goals, it is also essential for maintaining overall health and well-being, as well as for helping us adapt to changes in our energy, environment and atmosphere. Understanding Nervous System Regulation


The nervous system controls how the body responds to stress and maintains internal balance. It consists of two main parts: the sympathetic nervous system, which triggers the "fight or flight" response, and the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and recovery. When stress becomes chronic, the nervous system can become dysregulated, leading to symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue.


Nervous system regulation involves calming the sympathetic response and activating the parasympathetic system to restore equilibrium. Techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and mindful movement are well-known methods to achieve this. Herbs and Crystals offer an additional, complementary way to support this process by influencing energy flow and promoting relaxation.



Breathwork for Balance in the Body


Focused Intentional Breathwork can help to promote Balance in the body and regulate our nervous system. We practice and recommend a well-studied and researched technique known as the 5-5-5 Breathing Technique, where you Breathe in for 5 Seconds, Hold for 5 Seconds, and Release for 5 seconds. Feel free to use a number between 5 and 10 that feels most comfortable to you. This method of breathing has been studied for its ability to activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System, promoting homeostasis (balance) in the body, leading the Mind, Body, and Spirit into a Relaxed and Receptive state.

Herbs for Supporting a Healthy Nervous System


There are a variety of 'Nervine' herbs, herbs that are wonderful for supporting a healthy nervous system. These natural remedies have been utilized for centuries across different cultures, and their efficacy is often backed by both traditional knowledge and modern scientific research. A few of my personal favorites include Lavender, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Ashwagandha, Astragalus, Hawthorn, Hibiscus, Oat Tops/Milky Oats, and Full Spectrum Hemp CBD. Each of these herbs possesses unique properties that can help to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.



Lavender


Lavender is renowned for its calming and soothing effects on the mind and body. The aromatic scent of lavender has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels, making it an excellent choice for those experiencing tension or restlessness. Lavender can be enjoyed in various forms, including essential oils, which can be diffused in the air, or as a dried herb steeped in hot water to create a fragrant and relaxing tea. The compounds in lavender, such as linalool and linalyl acetate, are believed to interact with neurotransmitters in the brain, promoting a sense of tranquility.



Lemon Balm


 Lemon Balm is a member of the mint family and is cherished for its refreshing flavor and calming effects. It has been shown to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, making it an excellent choice for those dealing with stress-related symptoms. Lemon balm can be enjoyed as a tea, which is both delicious and soothing, or in tincture form for a more concentrated dose of its calming properties. The herb is also known to improve cognitive function, helping to enhance focus and clarity, which can be particularly beneficial during stressful periods.


--- This herb has helped me greatly in these last few weeks, as my immune system was reacting to something like a combination of intense cosmic energy/radiation and toxins or heavy metals (I had no symptoms of cold or flu, but my immune/nervous systems were showing signs that they were struggling to keep up...


(signs such as those shared at the beginning - most notably a weakened immunity with no apparent cause, as well as waves of anxiety seemingly from nowhere - more than the regular amount of anxiety/stress that I/we are used to - which is a lot if you are a sensitive being on Earth right now... And If you're reading this, chances are pretty good you feel it too.) <3


Listening to what my body was trying to tell me, I started drinking the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothies again - recipes for those shared in the section below. Medicinal Mushrooms - Nature's Adaptogens


Macrofungi, commonly known as mushrooms, are not only considered functional foods for supplying essential nutritional ingredients but also profound sources of Nature's Medicine. Some of the best natural adaptogens or protectors to oxidative stress in the body we have come across, according to research, are adaptogenic mushrooms such as Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Lions Mane.




Reishi


According to researchers such as the Amala Cancer Research Centre at Thrissur in Kerala and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Mumbai say they found that Reishi mushroom extract could prevent cellular damage induced by radiation in cancer therapy, nuclear accidents and even in nuclear warfare. "The mushroom has profound antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, tumor and cancer preventive and to top it all radioprotective properties," says Janardanan, one of the researchers. The presence of aqueous extract of G lucidum (Reishi) along with DNA during irradiation with gamma rays reduced radiation induced lesions in DNA by 89.53 per cent and prevented damage to certain cell organelles by 98 per cent. The findings appeared in Current Science (Vol 91, No 3, August 10, 2006). The mushroom (called Reishi in India) finds mention in the earliest book on medicinal materials in China, Shen Nough's Herbal (100-200 ad). Earlier studies have shown it helps reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. 



Turkey Tail


Trametes versicolor, referred to as Turkey Tail’s Mushroom or Yun Zhi in China, is an edible mushroom that has extensive historical usage in conventional and traditional Chinese medicine. This mushroom contains an abundance of physiologically bioactive compounds, responsible for antioxidant, neuroprotection, hypolipidemic effects, immune-modulating effects, and anticancer effects. Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail) has also been revealed to have wound healing, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antifibrotic, neurotrophic, and anti-inflammatory effects among other therapeutic efficacies."  - review paper from a themed issue on Functional Foods & Nutrition - 'Current Opinion in Food Science' 2024, 58:101191



Lions Mane


Lions Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) has garnered attention for its potential neuroprotective properties, particularly its ability to support the nervous system by promoting the growth and regeneration of neurons. Research indicates that compounds found in Lions Mane, such as hericenones and erinacines, can stimulate the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein crucial for the survival and maintenance of neurons. A study published in the journal "Mycobiology" demonstrated that Lions Mane extract significantly increased NGF levels in cultured neurons, suggesting its potential in neuro-regeneration (Mori et al., 2009). Additionally, a clinical trial conducted by Nagano et al. (2010) found that supplementation with Lions Mane improved cognitive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment, further supporting its role in enhancing nervous system health. These findings underscore the mushroom's promising applications in neurobiology and its potential to aid in the recovery and maintenance of neural function.

Eggs


Eggs are a nutrient-dense food that can significantly support a healthy nervous system. They are rich in choline, a vital nutrient that plays a crucial role in the production of neurotransmitters, which are essential for communication between nerve cells. Additionally, eggs contain B vitamins, particularly B12 and B6, which are important for maintaining nerve health and function. The presence of antioxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs also contributes to protecting the nervous system from oxidative stress, further promoting overall neurological well-being. Incorporating eggs into a balanced diet can thus provide essential nutrients that support cognitive function and nerve health.



Walnuts

The Mediterranean diet includes a lot of Olives and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the main sources of healthy fat. Also included in the Mediterranean diet are veggies, fruits, and whole grains.


Foods to Avoid


Some foods to avoid include red meats, dairy, sweets, and carbohydrates, as they contribute to high cholesterol, plaque buildup in arteries, and high blood pressure, which increases stress and disease, and can create imbalance in the nervous system. Also avoid foods which may contain high levels of harmful heavy metals, pesticides, and preservatives.



Talk To Your Body

To avoid allergies, a good technique to use is the skin test - gently rub a small amount of the food or herb on your skin, and if there's no reaction, chances are pretty good it is safe to eat, and if you get a reaction like a little rash on your skin, may be best to avoid it. Grow Your Own Garden


If you are concerned about the lack of nutrients and high level of toxins found in food at the grocery store as well as the rising cost of food, one of the best things we can do to help ourselves and others, is begin learning how to grow our own food in our backyard, patio, spare room, or basement. Heavy Metals & The Nervous System


Heavy metals are a very serious concern contributing to the amplification of heightened electromagnetic energy in the body, as well as a weakening of our immune and nervous systems, making it even harder for our bodies to heal, rest, and regulate.


The air quality scale is measured from 0 to 500. Good air quality that carries little risk is from 0 to 50, moderate air quality if 51 to 100, and unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups has a score of 101-150. Wondering how my passions for Natural Health and Crystals evolved?


Here is a little info on my Holistic Health journey ~


Ever since I was young, I have had a strong passion for Life and for the Beautiful diversity of the Earth, always felt a calling to connect and share my energy with other forms of Life, from the insects, flowers, plants, animals and people, to the stones and crystals along my path.  To me, not only were people and animals alive, but so too were the elements... I sensed the elements themselves held an energy, the Higher Love and Consciousness of Nature. 


While walking in Nature, I remember many times as a child, and still to this day, a particular pebble, plant, or critter catching my eye, and I would receive a strong feeling like this was a gift from Mother Nature, a small token of remembrance of the Love, Beauty, & Balance of Nature. 


This reverence and Love for Nature guided me on my journey to discover my purpose, how I can utilize this passion to help myself and others. I was guided to explore multiple paths of study in the field of Health and Medicine in College such as Nursing, Biology, and Sustainable Botany, eventually receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition.


A series of challenges or opportunities for growth in Life, including an important chapter in my own health journey, led me to start a business with my partner, Jaime. Together, we combined our passions and skills to create OpaLight Market, a space dedicated to Creating Harmony with the Elements, and Bringing the Beauty and Balance of Nature to the Lives and Homes of others.
